AI Features
Windshift includes optional AI features for planning, summarizing, and organizing work. A workspace administrator connects a language model once. The features then appear throughout the workspace.
What you can do
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Plan My Day | Generates a prioritized daily schedule from your assigned items |
| Catch Me Up | Summarizes recent activity and changes on a work item |
| Find Similar | Detects duplicate or related items across your workspace |
| Decompose | Breaks a work item into smaller sub-tasks |
| Release Notes | Generates release notes from a milestone's completed items |
| Dependency Analysis | Identifies dependencies between work items across teams and sprints |
| AI Chat | Interactive assistant that can look up and update items, track time, and answer questions. Opened on a work item, it understands the item you are viewing |
| Daily Briefing | Morning briefing with an activity recap, today's focus, and upcoming deadlines |
When AI is not configured, Windshift hides these features. The rest of the product works the same way.
These features assist you while you work. To delegate a coding task that opens a pull request, see Coding Agents.
Connecting a model
AI features stay unavailable until an administrator connects a language model. Windshift supports providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic. Use your own API key.
To connect a provider:
- Open Admin and go to AI settings.
- Choose a provider and paste the API key.
- Select the model for each feature and save.
After you activate a provider, the features become available across the workspace. You can switch providers or models without changing work items.
Note: Windshift stores API keys on your server and uses them only for the provider you configure. Self-hosting operators can customize the provider catalog or use an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. See LLM providers file.
Customizing the prompts
Every AI feature has a built-in prompt. Administrators can override individual prompts to change tone, format, or instructions. Prompts you do not replace keep their defaults.
Manage prompt overrides at the server level. See AI prompt overrides for the available prompts and setup instructions.
Checking AI status
If an AI feature is missing or behaves unexpectedly, an administrator can check whether AI is active and which provider is in use in Admin AI settings. When AI is off or has no provider, Windshift hides the features instead of showing an error.
